Curatorial Statement

Archived Dreams honors Eric Lindbloom’s memory and work as an artist in a career that spanned more than five decades. With iconic selections from his projects A River That Runs Two Ways, The Waves, Private Lives of Public Places, and the Salt Marsh Grass, Archived Dreams introduces Lindbloom’s photographs to new audiences.

After several viewings of Lindbloom’s archives, I chose these photographs for their drastically different natural features. In the photograph titled Keane, New York, you can see Lindbloom’s unique use of natural light. My eye is first drawn to the flowers in the foreground, then up and behind them to the water in a circular movement. And in the photograph from his series The Waves, my eye moves in a linear diagonal back and forth. Eric’s choice of silver gelatin prints in black and white provides his work with a uniformed structure. Through Lindbloom’s abstract lens, he creates  dynamic viewpoints in which we feel a sense of natural and serene isolation.
